I write to you today with a very heavy heart. Last night, our brilliant and hardworking MP, Fay Jones, lost her seat in the General Election.
The results were as follows:
• David Chadwick (Liberal Democrats): 13,736
• Fay Jones (Conservatives): 12,264
• Matthew Dorrance (Labour): 9,904
• Adam Hill (Reform Party): 6,567
• Emily Durante-Munro (Plaid Cymru): 2,280
• Ammi Kaur-Dhaliwal (Green): 1,188
• Jonathan Harrington (Abolish): 372
• Lily the Pink (Looneys): 237
Like many of you, I am absolutely heartbroken by this result. We spent several weeks conducting a very positive campaign, highlighting all the good things Fay has done for our constituency and what she aimed to achieve if re-elected. Unfortunately, the tide of 'change' promised by Labour, coupled with the rise of the Reform Party, cost us enough votes to let the Liberal Democrat candidate win by a margin of 1,472 votes.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every volunteer who helped us deliver leaflets, knock on doors, put up signs, phone residents, and make our campaign so positive. Your dedication and hard work did not go unnoticed, and I am incredibly proud of the effort you all put in. We also owe a great deal of gratitude to our CCHQ colleagues who provided incredible support, allowing us to knock on more doors and deliver more leaflets than ever before.
I firmly believe there was nothing more our volunteers or Fay could have done to secure more votes and retain this seat. In the coming weeks, our association will be in touch with the Party to discuss the national campaign and to begin planning our next steps for future campaigns.
I want to especially thank Fay, who has been a tremendous Member of Parliament for our constituency. She has tirelessly fought to bring significant changes to our area, from securing inward investment to support the arts and hospitality sectors, protecting jobs, to improving internet and mobile connectivity, ensuring our residents stay connected in this digital age, and fighting against plans for turbine and pylons across Radnorshire down to Carmarthen. Fay has also been a great Champion for both our farming and rural communities, and our towns and village too.
Finally, and I am sure I speak for us all, I want to thank Fay for being a great friend over the last 5 years. I wish her every success in whatever she chooses to do next, and hope to have her on board as we embark on our next campaign journey, and beyond.
Thank you once again for your incredible support and dedication. We could not have come this far without you.
Best regards,
Iain McIntosh
