We were all devastated to learn we were losing another bank when Barclays announced it was closing its doors in Builth Wells. However, this created opportunity for the Post Office next door to relocate, which looks to be going ahead following a recent consultation.
The Post Office can offer a variety of banking options and I hope those of you who do shop in Builth support this move. I will continue to raise the difficulty of accessing cash in rural areas in Westminster, but in the meantime do all I can to support the Builth Post Office in their application to becoming a Banking Hub. To make you aware I have another meeting booked with the Treasury Economic Secretary on this matter.
Sadly, not good news to learn of the decision to close the Welshpool Air Ambulance base, with only Powys Teaching Health Board voting in opposition. I feel desperately sad for all those campaigners who have worked so hard to keep the base open. I fully support colleagues across Powys who are urging the Welsh Government to overturn this decision for the benefit of those who live and work in these rural areas. It is clear that from start to finish, the whole process has been very badly handled and it’s critical now that campaigners do not lose hope. The fight will not end, and meetings are now being arranged to discuss a legal challenge.
On the other hand, my inbox has seen an influx of correspondence regarding people’s views on Green GEN proposals– an enormous issue that is causing concern across the constituency. Please be aware that the second non-statutory consultation, closes on the 8th May and I hope everyone has a chance to share their feedback.
I’m looking forward to welcoming the Rhosgoch & Painscastle buyers group to Westminster in early June. Plans are underway and I know those of you attending will have a super time, thank you to Treena for organising. It’s not an easy task and I look forward to welcoming you all.
As always if I can help in any way please do not hesitate to get in touch.
