I suspect James and I will have very similar entries this month. We have both spent these last weeks meeting with Farmers, small business and constituents across Brecon and Radnorshire all sharing huge concerns about the Sustainable Farming Scheme. I cannot express the urgency in telling everyone reading to tell everyone you know, to share your feedback to the consultation. This week we attended the Conservative Party Conference in Llandudno, where along with the Prime Minister we met with farmers campaigning against the harsh proposals, a stark difference to Labour Ministers running to the nearest car or back door.
Previous HMRC guidance would have seen Double Cab Pickups treated as cars rather than goods vehicles from July 2024. This decision would have impacted farmers and small businesses across Brecon and Radnorshire and I shared my concerns in meetings with the Treasury. DCPUs with a payload of one tonne or more are a vital form of transport across our community and I am delighted that the UK government have listened. This important benefit will continue to support businesses and our farming industry as was always intended.
was delighted to finally join Rhosgoch and Painscastle Buyers group for the evening earlier this month. The evening kicked off with a super supper courtesy of Rhosgoch Golf Club kitchen – thank you. They fired some hard-hitting questions and I hope I answered them all. I’ve returned to Parliament with more questions and meetings, and I hope to see them all in Parliament soon.
Lastly a huge congratulations to Rhosgoch YFC on their fabulous Drama win at the Radnor Drama festival – best of luck to you at the National final joining Sennybridge from Breconshire. I must also mention the honest hitting entry from Radnor Valley in 2nd place. Some certain Cardiff Bay Ministers would certainly learn a thing or two from watching such a powerful drama!
