This week saw the candidate announcement for the Powys County Council Elections on May 5th and we would like to thank everyone who has put themselves forward. We have a super team, with more candidates standing than ever before. We will both be spending the Easter break out and about canvassing with them.
We were both incredibly disappointed with the Welsh Government’s decision to not distribute the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee books to our schools. The bilingual books are intended for all school children, explaining the role of the monarchy and what the platinum jubilee represents. Communities across Wales are making plans to celebrate the jubilee weekend and it is a huge shame the Labour government is not as willing to celebrate Her Majesty’s enormous milestone. We have written to all schools in the constituency to let them know that we would be happy to help procure the books for them.
Great news from BT who have announced their decision to halt the switch to Digital Voice. Many constituents have been in touch with concerns over poor broadband and weak mobile reception, especially following recent storms. BT is now researching a better, more cautious way of rolling out the scheme. However, there was not such good news when the Labour Government chose to stop funding the Welsh Gigabit Broadband Voucher top up. There are still too many areas across the constituency where reception isn’t good enough and this makes connection more unaffordable for many yet again. It is a selfish move.
We are both concerned about the recent demands on Powys Health Board and the alarming reports from under pressure A&Es across Wales. Without an A&E in Powys we are asked to travel to The Prince of Wales, The Grange or Hereford Hospital. We are working with all Health Boards to encourage them to cross communicate so that constituents across Powys are aware of any developments or changes in their treatment plans.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can help in anyway.
