Brecon and Radnorshire Conservatives have selected their candidate for next year’s Senedd elections.
James Evans is a Powys County Councillor and has lived in the constituency all his life. said: “This is a great honour and a privilege to be selected as a candidate for our area. I want to represent the people of Brecon & Radnorshire, delivering improvements in all aspects of their lives, standing up on issues important to us all. I know the constituency from top to bottom and I will deliver improvements to education, our health services and bring investment and well-paid jobs that this part of Wales has missed but so richly deserves.”
James helps manage a family business involved in farming and food processing and works for the Country Landowners’ Association. He has been heavily involved in Young Farmers in Brecon & Radnorshire and is a member of the National Farmers Union Next Generation Group – working on solutions to make farming fit for the future.
James said: “Agriculture is the lifeblood of Wales and the backbone of our community. I will continue to work to support rural businesses, championing our great produce, welfare standards and ensuring the environment we live in is protected.”
Raising the profile of Brecon and Radnorshire in the Senedd is James’s goal – highlighting how the people of rural Wales have been forgotten by the Labour/Lib Dem Welsh Government.
James’ priorities include encouraging tourism and diversification of the rural economy, working for a fairer system for Business Rates to ensure our high streets prosper, making sure residents get the public services they require and building more houses so our young people can stay and work in the area.
James would also continue his work to provide faster mobile and broadband systems, which is vital if rural the rural economy he is passionate about is to grow and be fit for the future. He said: “I understand this region; the challenges of living here and the wonderful opportunities it offers. A prosperous economy is essential if we are to invest in our public services, the NHS, our schools and housing and realise our opportunities.”
In his Council role, James has been involved in the Regional Economic Steering Group in the Welsh Government – helping to shape future economic policy. He has also led on delivery of the Mid Wales Growth Deal and was instrumental in making sure £45m in grants was delivered to local businesses to secure their future through the Coronavirus pandemic.
James sits on the Local Government Association and is a Member of The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his young family and likes to keep fit.
