Over the Easter recess I have been busy with various meetings and events across Brecon and Radnorshire including my regular meeting with Dyfed Powys Police to discuss any issues that maybe of concern. Rural crime impacts families emotionally and financially and blights our rural communities damaging our rural way of life.
One of the subjects discussed in this week’s meeting was the change in road users as we embark upon the summer period. It is a minority of drivers and riders who drive recklessly. Weekend family time can be ruined by selfish weekend motorists making excessive amounts of noise. I am working closely with the Police about highlighting speeding hot spots this summer. We are fortunate to live in a tourist hotspot and we must continue to encourage visitors to our area, however we must stop the inconsiderate seasonal road users.
This week saw Powys Health Board confirm that they are not in any position to support recommendations to close the Air Ambulance Base in Welshpool. This is incredibly good news for the 30,000 people who have signed the petition to keep the base open. Later in April there is a public meeting of the NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee, the fight isn’t over.
I must give my annual shout out for the National Garden Scheme currently preparing for their first open days of the season and Spring opening. I’m delighted to support this charity by visiting as many gardens across Brecon and Radnorshire as I can. Please do give the Powys Gardens website a visit. I would like to thank the teams behind every garden, every supporter and every visitor, who raise such valuable funds for nursing and health charities.
I am holding surgeries across Brecon and Radnorshire. This is your chance to share any concerns you may have. Surgeries are available by appointment. Please do get in touch [email protected]
