Serving as the MP for Brecon and Radnorshire has been an honour. With the election campaign now underway proper, it is fantastic going back to villages and communities that I’ve been working with for several years and hearing how things have changed – but also what more needs to be done.
One of the biggest issues has been Bute Energy’s plans for industrial scale wind farms and electricity pylons right across Radnorshire and Brecknockshire. I am the only candidate who can win who has opposed these plans from the get-go. It is critical that residents have their say on these plans. Throughout my time as the Member of Parliament, I have worked with thousands of constituents to make them aware of how to oppose the scheme - and I am not letting the General Election get in my way. Residents have until 24th June to feed their views into Bute Energy’s website, as part of a statutory period of consultation.
I got into politics to be a voice for rural areas. And throughout my time in Westminster, I have been someone that Government cannot ignore; that’s why I was able to overturn the decision to close Brecon Barracks and secured millions of pounds of UK Government investment for projects like The Judge’s Lodgings in Presteigne or the new community pub in New Radnor.
My voice can be detected in the Conservative Party’s manifesto for the General Election. It contains a commitment to UK wide biosecurity – meaning that we want to work with the Welsh Government to combat animal welfare problems such as Bovine TB. This gives us the power to work with Welsh Government to introduce a badger cull in Wales.
Brecon, Radnor and Cwmtawe deserves a loud, clear voice. I’ve been that person for the last four and a half years and I hope I can continue for years to come.
