Throughout the consultation process, Powys County Council have failed to provide a convincing argument to close the Welsh stream at Brecon High School.
In recent years, Powys County Council have driven through a ‘modernising’ agenda to radically change the education system here in Powys. Against the will of the vast majority of public opinion who oppose their planned closures.
Parents from all over South Powys send their children to study at the Welsh stream in Brecon and to close this facility would mean that Builth Wells would be the nearest alternative or Ystalyfera near Swansea. This will be a considerable burden for many families, both financially and socially.
I am opposed to the councils plans to centralise our education system here in Powys and they should not expect parents to have to send their children on a 40-60 mile round trip every day to access a bilingual education/
I fully support the Welsh stream at Brecon High School remaining open and will be personally emailing the cabinet this weekend to urge them to listen to those using the stream who overwhelmingly support the stream remaining open.
