James Evans MS and Fay Jones MP have both spoken of their disappointment in HSBC's announcement to close their Brecon branch.
HSBC has announced the closure of 114 branches across the United Kingdom, including one in Brecon. The closures will start from April next year, with the Brecon bank closure scheduled for May 9.
James Evans MS said
“This is disappointing news and a real blow to the high street. I am also disappointed that this has come out in the media before account holders have been informed. It’s unacceptable that account holders weren’t the first to know, especially those who use HSBC for business accounts"
Fay Jones MP added
"I am disappointed that once again we are faced with another Bank closing in Brecon and Radnorshire. I led a debate in Westminster to discuss rural banking services last year and highlighted the importance of rural community’s access to cash. It is a legal requirement for retail banks to provide deposit and withdrawal facilities for custoProposed banking hubs can take months to set up leaving customers and businesses stranded with no facilities. More must be done to protect rural areas from facing a cashless future"
